TOMRA Feedstock plants
In Norway, TOMRA Feedstock has entered a joint venture with plastics producer responsibility organization Plastretur and is currently in process of building a sorting facility that has the capacity to receive all plastics packaging waste from the entire country of Norway. The facility under construction in Holtskogen Business Park in Indre Østfold municipality will, upon completion in 2025, have a capacity of sorting up to 90,000 tonnes of plastic waste per year, turning it into clean fractions of plastic feedstock ready for recycling.
Stena Recycling has been chosen to be the operational partner of the site in Holtskogen.
This facility is wholly owned by TOMRA and will be located outside of Düsseldorf in Western Germany. Construction of the processing plant will start in early 2025 and is planned to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2026. When completed the facility will be able to treat up to 80,000 tonnes of mixed plastic coming from residual waste, sourced from the central European area, that would otherwise go to incineration or landfill.
The facility will produce sorted material fractions, mainly distributed in bales to recyclers. The goal is to help close the gap between plastic waste currently lost to incineration or landfill and the demand for high quality plastic feedstock for both mechanical and chemical recycling processes. A partner has been selected to manage the facility operations to ensure maximum efficiency and material quality.
