FAQs about TOMRA Feedstock

TOMRA Feedstock's mission is to close the circularity gap for plastics by recovering mixed plastics being lost today to incineration or landfill and making this material available for recycling. TOMRA Feedstock can in this way contribute to closing the gap between the demand for plastic feedstock and the supply currently available. 

TOMRA Feedstock is focused on recovering plastic from the residual waste stream that would otherwise be incinerated or sent to landfill. The final output from TOMRA's facilities will be baled material that is ready for recycling. TOMRA Feedstock is not running any processes in the field of chemical recycling or washing of plastics after the step of sorting, and does not target material which is collected via a separate collection or a deposit or deposit-like system.

No, TOMRA Feedstock is focused on recovering the plastics from the residual waste stream.

The output material from the TOMRA Feedstock facilities will be bales consisting of like plastic types, prepared using advanced sorting technology.  

No, the output material will go to both mechanical and chemical recyclers. Most of the output material will be mechanically recycled.

While our plant in Germany is wholly owned by TOMRA Feedstock, our plant in Norway is owned jointly by TOMRA and Plastretur. TOMRA selects external local partners to manage the operations of current and future facilities who are experienced in that field. In any further plants or projects with a European scope, TOMRA is open to partnering with waste management and recycling businesses and/or the petrochemical industry. The two TOMRA Feedstock facilities now being constructed will make a significant impact in closing the circularity gap for plastics in Europe, with a combined input capacity of 170,000 tons of plastic feedstock per annum.   

No, TOMRA Feedstock is sourcing and sorting the plastic material from the residual waste stream which is currently not being recycled. TOMRA Feedstock provides a complementary service for recyclers, providing feedstock that they can use to process and sell to plastic packaging producers.
