PRESS RELEASE

TOMRA's Science-Based Targets approved: A commitment to net- zero emissions

TOMRA, a global leader in resource optimization and circular economy solutions, is proud to announce that its Science Based Targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This approval marks a natural next step in TOMRA's ongoing commitment to increasing sustainability through business operations and the use of their products, aligning corporate goals with the latest climate science and the Paris Agreement’s objective to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Grounded in scientific research and transparency

As part of its commitment, TOMRA has set ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain. These targets include a 55% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2033, and a 62% reduction in Scope 3 emissions intensity (annual greenhouse gas emissions/mEUR value added) by the same year. By 2050, these targets aim for a 90% and 97% reduction, respectively. With the SBTi's validation, TOMRA joins a growing number of companies dedicated to taking action against climate change.

TOMRAs path to net zero cover

"At TOMRA, we are committed to sustainability through the development of solutions for resource optimization and circularity, but we are also on our own journey toward net-zero. As we decarbonize our operations, transparency and accountability will remain adamant. We recognize that this journey will present challenges, and our strategies must evolve to identify the most impactful climate solutions grounded in the latest scientific insights", says Tove Andersen, President and CEO of TOMRA, who underscores the fact that many of the solutions that enable a path towards more sustainable societies are already available.

Reaching net- zero requires transformational, system-level change. While the challenges ahead may seem daunting, there are proven systems and technologies that enable circularity and enhance resource productivity while minimizing emissions. We will continue to promote these systems at greater scale, maximizing the positive impact of our products and solutions while minimizing our own footprint.

By embracing science-based targets, TOMRA is not only reducing its environmental impact but also committing to transparency, accountability, and the pursuit of solutions for a world without waste. We acknowledge the challenge of decoupling financial growth from emissions, but believe it is an achievable goal, and one we are dedicated to pursuing. Our focus remains on driving innovation that supports both sustainability and economic resilience.
